A quote from our old buddy, Albert Einstein…

“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, and the other is as if everything is.”

Here comes another grad!

This girl was a real pleasure to be around. She let me drag her to a few places where I’d never shot, some of which worked, and a few that didn’t (darn wind kept thwarting my plans. Sun is good one way, but the stinkin’ wind is coming from the wrong direction!)  She looks like a mix of Teresa Sokyrka and my parent’s neighbor’s daughter from the lake. Nat, if you’re reading this, don’t you think she looks like Lauren in the second shot?!  Anyway, thanks for making the drive down. I am always amazed and flattered when people are willing to come from a ways away to get pictures done. Have a great weekend with D.

This is one of the shots where the sun and wind worked in our favour. I love the motion of her hair in this image  :)

Little man

This blue eyed dude was a pretty happy guy the whole time we did pictures, although we didn’t get a whole bunch of huge smiles out of him. This one was so sweet though! I figure one good smiling one is all you need. I tend to feel more connection with those images where the child has a softer expression, like #2. What a cutie.

Just a little snuggle with mommy and daddy.  I love his sleepy little look. We tried waiting him out to see if he’d fall asleep, but he wouldn’t quite give in. I think this one is better anyway with those huge highlights in his eyes. My studio picture window is so great!! I love love love it!

Some of my favorite little people….

So I posted a big sappy bit about my cousin and her family, and how much I love them, just a few days ago. Now I’m sitting here with this family’s pictures infront of me, and I’ve just got a big fat grin on my face. These guys are pretty special to me too, though they’re not family. I got to know their mom a few years after I moved to Grenfell, and she’s been such a great friend to me. Like I said in my Thanksgiving post, I don’t have a huge group of friends. I don’t go out much, and I don’t do much “Girl’s night” type of stuff. As far as girlfriends go though, Carla is the best! She’s the person who is willing to volunteer for anything, and help you out with your kids, and be the one to drive to hockey, ball, whatever.  She is a wonderfully giving person, and I’m glad to have her in my life. And her kids are so much fun. They are lively, happy, crazy, and have huge personalities. Oh, and her hubby’s alright too  ;)  If you ever want to go shoot a moose (or duck, or deer, or gopher, or bear, or antelope, or elk, or goose or…….) he’ll be in there like a dirty shirt :)

Whew. That was a really long intro.  Here’s a shot I tried, but can’t say I really mastered. I wanted to try a jumping shot in the studio. It’s o.k. for a first try, but I have plans to make it work better next time. I thought it was fun enough to post though!

“Sweet kaa”

When I started downloading these pictures, and they popped up on the screen, Casey looked at the car shots and said “Sweet caa mommy!”  It’s hard not to love a Mustang.

Thought for the day…

Anyone who has come to the studio and sat with me at my desk to design a montage, or album, will know that I have a big ol’ binder full of quotes. I love words, and I’ve been collecting quotes, sayings, poems, etc since I was in junior high school.

Because I have a secondary love of language and poetry (though I don’t nurture this love as much anymore), I thought I’d start sharing the odd quote here and there on the blog. Here’s one I’ve always really liked.

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life had breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success.”        - Ralph Waldo Emerson (a man of many, many wonderful quotes)

3 Grads and a Baby

These are a few images from yesterday and today’s sessions. With that snow from the weekend, it’s making for such neat pictures! I love the fall foliage mixed with the snow on the ground. Crazy climate of ours. The snow bounces the light up onto the face beautifully, so there are some advantages to the chilly outdoor session!

I made Casey tag along while I did Scott’s pictures, as I often do if I’m photographing a single person. He doesn’t usually mind too much, but today he was getting a little cold towards the end I think. He forgot about that when he saw the semi however! No worries, he didn’t get hit  :)

Family

I don’t really know where to start with what to write for this post. This family means more to me than words will allow me to illustrate. It was because of them that I moved to Grenfell, and I can’t imagine my life being anywhere else now. They’ve all helped me so much in the past few months, and it’s meant so much to me. The kids babysat, came with me as assistants to shoots, helped with framing, phone calling, packaging pictures for shipping, doing dishes, meals (thanks for all the good chopping of pizza toppings Logan!), etc.  I felt so good about my kids spending time with them this summer while I was working. It didn’t feel like I was abandoning them so much! I knew they were with family, and being loved from every angle! You guys are so awesome, and now I can’t type because my eyes are all blurry. I love you :)

A snowy holiday!

For those of you that don’t live in Saskatchewan, this is what we recieved on sunday afternoon! Lots of leaves still left on the trees around the yard, but snow weighing them down. It was beautiful on the Mountain Ash! We headed out after breakfast and enjoyed a super mild day, making forts and building snowmen. Hope everyone else gets some soon!

:)

I’m thankful for a helpful, supportive husband, that loves me even when I’m being unlovable. I’m thankful for healthy, growing kids that have never known what it’s like to go hungry. I’m thankful for my Christian Mennonite heritage. I’m thankful that I have a brother that has safely travelled the world over, and has decorated my house with his gifts :) I’m thankful that my parent’s have retired to the most perfect place on earth, and I get to go and see them often.

I’m grateful that I get to wake up every morning, not dreading my job. I’m happy to be blessed with not a large group of friends, but a few terrific friends. I am blessed with good health for myself, and my family. I am lucky enough to live in a country that is not at war. I feel honored to have been welcomed into this community of Grenfell for the past decade, and have been supported in my business by my friends and clients.

I feel ashamed that I sometimes have a complaining heart.

I regret every time I say something negative about another human being.

I hope that I will someday grow into the woman that God sees me to be.

I wish that I could protect my kids from every pain.

God is good, and has given me more than I could ever repay. I am humbled by his grace and mercy.

“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”  Psalm 51:10
