My brother…

I don’t normally post too much  on here about my personal life, but last week we had a pretty special time at our house. My brother was able to come up for five days and my boys were beyond excited. They were counting down the sleeps for about two weeks before he came.  We don’t get to see my brother too often, so when we do, it’s such an awesome time. I love getting so see him, cause he’s my only sibling, and he fills me in on all the new music I should be getting. My kids love him cause he’s just a cool uncle! We went out sledding one afternoon, and it was stinkin’ cold, but we toughed it out for about 20 minutes before we had to pack it in.  I don’t know when we’ll be able to get together again, but we’re so thankful that we got to spend this short time with him.

This is why I hate bringing my point and shoot out, instead of my work camera!

Smiles

I’ve had a few sessions booked this week that have had to cancel for different reasons, so I was glad that this family was able to still make it for theirs!  This little girl was so smiley. She was giggling like crazy at daddy, and cuddling right up to me. She was so fun to hang out with. Thanks for making the drive down guys.

Another pregnancy!

I got to photograph another expectant mommy last week, and it was fun as always. We had a little early morning fog going on, so we popped out for a few short minutes. It was a little too chilly to do too many shots, but we got what we could.  She only has a few weeks left to go, so I’m excited I’ll get to be doing a newborn session soon!!  Best of luck with your last few weeks. :)

Wintery Wonderland with a pretty girl

”Are you feeling crazy this morning Tatum??” This is the phone call I get at 9:05 a.m. this morning, from this grad student.  Whoo hoo!!!! Snowy shoot!  As you can see in my last post, it started snowing last night and didn’t stop. When we woke up it was thick and wet and about a foot deep.  Perfect day for grad casuals! Thank goodness it was on a day when my lovely assistant Kim was already coming in. She lives across the street from me, so I called her and told her we were heading out for a shoot. She arrived in full snow gear, whereas I forgot my mitts and left the house with barefeet in my winter boots. Needless to say, I had chilly ankles by the time we were done. We fought through thigh high snow, drove on completely snowed in backroads, came across our poor South Africa doctor, stuck and waiting for a tow truck, and had many strange stares as people slowed down to see what we were doing, and inquire if we needed any help!

I should also mention that this grad student was my work experience student in Grade 10, and I absolutely loved having her with me for those few weeks. She’s got a radiant smile and a crazy spunky personality. She’s one of those people that you just want to be around. We drove out to her farm and got a few shots with some baby calves, some hyper horses, and lots and lots of snow! Thanks for a fun morning Erin, and thank you Kim for being a spectacular assistant, going far beyond the call of duty!

Tranquility

I was just about to go to bed last night at around 12:30 and I looked out the window to see the most beautiful snowfall. I decided to grab my camera, tripod and umbrella and head out for a quick couple shots. I’m so glad I did. Some of my favorite images I’ve ever done are from the middle of the night! I’m glad no one drove by, as I was standing in the middle of the road in my husband’s big Sorels and my pajamas.  :)

It was  incredibly peaceful outside at that time of night. It reminded me so much of one evening when I lived in the south of  Sweden. We had a very wet, heavy snowfall one night in the little town where I lived, and we all ran out in the dark and enjoyed the experience. Our area of Sweden was quite mild, as we were close to the southern coast, but we had a perfect blanket of snow all winter. Everytime we get a snowfall like this, I can feel the Holsbybrunn air, and it takes me back in an instant.

Another grad

After I was all finished with the Wolseley crew on saturday, I had a Kipling grad student come to the studio. We had fun trying some new spots around town and she graciously let me experiment somemore with one of my new lenses.  Thanks for making the drive over!

Wolseley Grad

I had a super busy weekend shooting the Wolseley grad class. Even though I was totally shot by the end of the two days, we got it done, and the weather cooperated enough that we were even able to do quite a bit outside.  Here’s your preview guys. Thanks for coming.  :)

Baby on the way!!

This afternoon I got to do my first pregnancy session in a little while.  These sessions are so much fun. I just love the shape of a pregnant woman. Even when I was huge, I really liked the look of being pregnant, though I didn’t feel so great physically!

I did this couple’s wedding in ‘07 and their engagement photos before that.  Like I’ve said before, it’s so cool to see my wedding clients turn into families.  Best of luck with the next few weeks guys!

Another baby!

I haven’t done many babies lately, and now two in just a few days, both little girls, and both around the same age! I did this little one’s sister when she was around 6 months as well, and she came along today to be mommy’s assistant.  She took a liking to my cameras and the water spray bottle, and the baskets, and the lens caps……  Such a busy age (if I’m remembering right, I think she’ll be 2 in april, but I could be off a bit!) I’m guessing the days in this household are VERY busy!

This  little one did great, and gave us some big smiles.  We even got her into 3 different outfits, plus the bare belly ones. Not bad for this age! You just never know what they’re going to put up with when you start messing around with moving them from pose to pose, and outfit to outfit.  She let us do whatever we wanted pretty much. Thanks D!

January wedding

This past weekend I travelled down to Kipling, against nasty winds, and just barely made it into town after having a few scares on the old Oakshela Road! Thank goodness I made it, and was able to join these two awesome people as they shared their love for eachother with  a small group of family and friends. It was such a spiritual ceremony, and was performed eloquently by Chris Toth of the People’s Church.  It was also the greatest church for shooting a ceremony. Tons of natural light, and nice and open. I was able to move freely and get some great shots that normally can be a bit tricky to get.

Thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of your wedding day. I really enjoyed meeting you and your families. God bless you in your new lives together as husband and wife. :)
