Morning dew

A few weeks ago Casey and I were outside on a bright cheery 7:00 a.m. morning, playing in the sandbox. It was super wet on the grass, so I had a towel and I was laying down (because it was 7:00 a.m. and I was still tired and trying to sneak in an extra few minutes of sleep while he played!)  I noticed all the pretty dew droplets on the grass blades, so instead of getting those bonus sleeping minutes, I ran downstairs and got my macro lens on the camera and made my way back outside to the brisk fall air. I love the reflection in these tiny droplets. Nature is an incredible masterpiece, and so many of the best moments in it are found in the stillness of the dawn before the world turns into a chaotic daily circus. I know I’m going off on a bit of a tangent here, but there are so many horrid stories on the news focused on the awful things that humans do to eachother. It’s nice to be able to escape from all the negativity and enjoy something as simple as a grass blade kissed with morning dew.

And another grad!

We started this session at 7:00 p.m., and if you may have noticed, it’s getting dark EARLY!!  I tried a few shots with flash, which I barely ever use, but it turned out kind of cool (last picture in post).  There are also alot of mosquitos out at this time of night, so I apologize if you went home with big itchy welts.

It’s awesome getting to meet the new class of 2010.  I have some huge classes this year, and I wasn’t able to fit in as many students as I would have liked in the fall. That means there will be lots and lots of wintery sessions being posted in the coming months! Thanks to those of you who booked in early and are coming in the fall! I look forward to these sessions so much.

Another grad :)

I was excited to do this session. I’ve photographed this girl a few times over the years, and she’s got such a sweet personality. We ran around town a bit on monday morning and headed out to my favorite grassy area. She changed into a dress to do a few shots, and I like how the sparkly formal dress looked in a totally unformal environment. Thanks for coming down for your session.  :)

Deer Valley

After my wedding on saturday, I headed over to Deer Valley to photograph this family. What an incredible development! This first shot is the view from their kitchen/living area windows. They live at the base of the valley, and their view overlooks a beautifully manicured golf course.  Thanks for having me out to your home guys. It was cool to visit your cozy community!

Love on Campus

We had a terrific September day for the Regina wedding on saturday.  You never know in the fall what type of weather you’ll get, but it couldn’t have been a more perfect day. We did all of the shots at the University campus. I’d never been there, and I thought it was beautiful! I love how the reflection of the sky showed in all the buildings that we shot against. It made for such bright fresh images. This couple met on campus, so that’s what influenced their decision to do their photos there. I’m so glad they chose it. We had a great time with them. I keep saying we, so I should explain that my awesome friend, and fellow photographer, Lindsey, came with me. When I stepped on a nail during a session earlier in the week, I was worried that I might have trouble keeping up to a wedding. I asked her to come shoot with me, and it was so much fun. She took off with the groomsmen for awhile, and they got some crazy shots! If you’re on Facebook, look for Lilyfield Photography, and you’ll find her stuff. She’s great, and if you’re in the city and need a photographer for anything, look her up. She’s expecting baby #3, so she’ll be a super busy business woman/momma. :)

Lindsey in action with the boys.

Friends

I got to spend friday afternoon with three wonderful people. Little Miss “Big gorgeous blue eyes” took me around the farm to do her mini personal photo shoot before we left to hang out in Regina together to do the real photo shoot. She found a salamander, and quickly scooped him up to show me.  She’s actually holding onto him still in the donkey hugging image.  She’s such a doll. Farm girl at heart, but with a touch of European flair that she has inherited from being born and living overseas. She can speak a bit of Hungarian, is a classic violinist, ballerina and now she can add pianist to her list of talents.  Anyway, I’m getting waaaay off topic. I have known this family since I moved to Grenfell, and they’ve become great friends to me. I love that they can teach me about good food and great wine, and I can live vicariously through all their wonderful travelling stories. Thank you so much for a great afternoon. :)

Fun in the fall

I haven’t photographed this little doll since she was a newborn (and before that I had done her parent’s wedding and engagement photos. I love repeat clients) . Just check out those juicy pink lips! What a gorgeous kiddo.  :)  She was in a great mood, so we had a fun time playing chase, racing, and then going to the park to finish off.  I was a little slower than normal, after stepping on a nail at my last engagement session, but luckily she cooperated well with me, and I was able to catch her being her cute self.  I’m so glad the red leaves on my vine lasted for her session. They started turning red a few weeks ago, then started falling off during the weekend. I had planned on photographing her in front of them, and was afraid they might all be gone by our session time! Thanks goodness they held on. The colors are incredible.

I love this picture. Usually she liked her thumb, but for some reason in this shot she had her other fingers in her mouth. She had just glanced up at mommy, and looked so sweet and concerned.

First 2010 couple

While I’m still in the midst of 2009 weddings, I had a 2010 couple come down for their engagement session.  I’ve got a full year next year, and these two were among the first to book.  It was nice to get to meet them, and despite injuring myself, I had a great time with them. Mosquitos were out in full swing, but inbetween batting them away, we got some cool shots. Thanks for coming down guys, and thanks for all the medical advice!

I love this first shot. So romantic! It took us awhile to find a standing wheat field, but it was worth it. :)

Part 2 - Image overload

Because this is family, I kind of went a little haywire on the images. I know there’s probably too many posted here, but they’re getting special treatment. I had a completely awesome time with them, and I’m so glad that I was able to photograph their wedding. We’ve been so excited for this day to come, and it was a perfect one. The church service was very spiritual, the afternoon was fun, the supper was tasty (especially the desserts!) and the reception hall was abolutely gorgeous. It was a very Ukranian evening, and I got to hear more polka music in one evening than I’ve ever heard in my whole life. If I knew how to dance to it, I would have loved to, but I  spent most of the evening swinging my 4 year old in circles on the dance floor. Thank you, thank you, thank you for such an incredible day guys. I hope you’re having a fantastic honeymoon in Mexico and a beautiful life together!! We’ll be stopping by to see the newly renovated house. :)

“Hello, this is Wendy’s. May I take your order?” ……   “Yes, we’ll have 20 burgers please”……  As you can see below, the wedding party was a bit numerous. And hungry.   ;)

I have to throw in a little story about this above image.  Our Sean Penn look-a-like groom proposed to his future bride in this very tractor. Of course that was pretty special, and was a must for a photo op.

I know I do this shot alot of girls, but I just love it.  Always, always pretty.

Romance and elegance

Here are  just a quick handful of pictures from today’s wedding. This is my wonderful cousin in law and her equally wonderful new husband. I didn’t get home from the wedding until after 1:00 a.m., but I couldn’t help it. I’m still up at 3:24 a.m. , downloading cards and flipping through images. I wanted to post a few in case anyone who recieved a blog card at the wedding was checking!  Anyone who was at the wedding knows that these two are two of the greatest people you’ll have walk through your life. They’re warm, caring, compassionate, on fire for God, and just generally a blessing to be around.

Be sure to check back in a day or two, as I’ll be adding a TON more from the day.  But for now, my bed is calling me…….
