Back to the studio

Yesterday was cold, windy and miserable, so instead of fighting the elements, we opted for staying in the warm cozy studio, and keeping everyone’s hair in the place it should be.  It was a short and sweet session, but when there’s only three people, it’s easy!

Homestead centennial - Gladmar

Like I’ve mentioned before, I don’t always travel super far distances for sessions, other than weddings. There are always exceptions though, and this was one of them. This family was celebrating their Homestead’s 100th year. I know the one couple, as the girl is from Grenfell, and I photographed their wedding waaaaay back when I first started out. Actually, my dad helped me with it because I was so new. It was one of the very first weddings I  did.  I travelled down to the teeny town of Gladmar, down south, near the US border. It rained the whole way down, so I was sure we were going to be forced to do everything inside. Luckily, the rain didn’t fall at their farm once we got there! It misted, and it was cold enough that our breath was very visible, but we did everything outside, and it turned out perfectly. I was able to spend time with each family individually, and we took advantage of all sorts of areas of the farm. Enjoy the preview everyone!

Just because

On friday afternoon this couple made the trip out from Regina to do a photo session together, just because.  I think more couples should do this, not just when they get engaged or married.  Just simply to capture their connection! We managed to find some color in the trees, although the leaves are quickly dissapearing around town. Thanks for coming out guys. It was great to meet you. :)

Monday’s family

Yes, I’m a little behind in blog posts. This family came in almost a week ago, on a chilly afternoon. The kids were awesome and toughed out the cold. We got three different full family poses, which is not an easy feat when you have small kids. Thanks for being such a well behaved bunch! Hope you had a great supper afterwards.

Langbank

Well, a season has come to a close. This was my last wedding of 2009, and it was awesome. I was a little worried in the morning when the bride called at 7:30 a.m. to say that there was still a foot of snow on the ground. In a bigger town, I might have been able to scope out some locations that would be usable. Langbank, as anyone who has been there knows, is pretty little. Well, that’s an understatement.  Langbank has 3 streets in town, none of which are paved from what I could tell. The mud was thick and the streets were a slushy mess! I love my rural weddings, and this is a cute little town, but the possibilities of shooting outside in that type of weather would have been incredibly limiting! Luckily the snow all melted off by later afternoon, and the sun shone! We went a mile out of town to an old stone church an shot everything in the yard. The wedding party was fun, the couple was fun and the day was fun. It was an great way to end the year’s wedding spree.  Congratulations you guys!!  :)

Destination - Weyburn

On friday I headed out to Weyburn for a very full day of shooting. The weather was the pits, so half of the sessions were done inside, and the outside ones were mighty chilly! I really enjoyed meeting these four families. It’s neat watching family dynamics. Each one of them was so unique from the next. I always meet lots of families, obviously with this job, but it was a new experience for me to shoot in peoplle’s homes. I quite liked it! If you are in a town not so close to me, and can organize 3 or 4 families, I’d be willing to do this sort of thing again. Not until March though, as I’m pretty booked up until then.

Enjoy the previews everyone!

Something a little different

Before Thanksgiving I shot this session for a bride, as a wedding gift for her husband. I’m starting to do more and more of these sessions, and they’re so much fun. Most of the time the girls are a little on the nervous side starting, but leave feeling like sexy goddesses! It’s awesome to photograph a person, and capture their beauty in a way they’ve never seen themselves before. She gave me permission to post a few on here, so I thought I would!

A new brother

This little guy is lucky to have a wonderful, caring big sister welcoming him to the world.  She is so in love with him, and will no doubt become mommy’s assistant. Little girls are just naturals that way I think. We stole dad’s boots from him for a few shots, and the blanket that babe is wrapped in belonged to dad as a baby. The fact that it matched the boots so well was just icing on the cake.

PEACE, MAN!

A new relative

This little girl was so bright eyed and beautiful. She’s also my husband’s cousin’s new baby, so she’s kind of special to us.  I’ve had such good luck with my newborns lately. They’ve all been very cooperative, and so content!  Welcome to the Duryba clan missy. :)

Another new bundle

Yesterday afternoon I was thrilled to be able to take pictures of this little guy.  He was probably the easiest, most cooperative newborn I’ve ever done. He just let us put him in whatever position we wanted to, and he loved being naked. Mom and I were both nearly ready to pass out from having the heat cranked so high in the studio, but he was happy, so all was good. I wanted to get these images up a.s.a.p. because little M’s one set of grandparents live in Pittsburg, so they haven’t gotten to see him yet in real. So here you go Crowe family. Your newest addition!! I can’t imagine how excited you all are to come and meet him next week.

This image below was a yawn, but it looked so much like he was laughing at the best joke ever!
