Cowgirl, with no horse

Well, we tried to find a day without rain so that this girl could get shots done with her horse, but alas, this spring it’s near impossible to find one of those days. We actually avoided rain pretty much, but it would have been really tricky to get a horse trailer down the gravel roads, so she opted for just doing her shots with a mix of her everyday clothes, and her western wear.  Although it would have been really awesome to have had the horse, we got some great shots anyway.

In the shot below, we were out by the highway, and the wind was horrendous. The poor girl’s eyes were watering, and her hair was blowing everywhere. I know she looks like she’s ready to rip my head off in the picture, but I love it! I like those intense, moody kind of shots. But really, she was a nice girl.  :)

See. Here’s her friendly face!

And back to grads

Due to unforseen blows to the head while quadding, we had to postpone this grad student’s session a bit. Stitches on the face aren’t exactly what you want in your casual pictures! We had awesome weather though on the day he came, and we were able to go wherever we wanted, not worrying about puddles and mud. Nice change!

Grenfell Grad!!

My local kids from saturday. Lots of rain, lots of grey, but lots of fun trying out some new stuff in the studio as well.  Congratulations guys!! :)

More from Whitewood

Last friday was originally supposed to be a day filled with running from farm to farm, photographing another group of the Whitewood grad students. Although it was going to be a tad hectic, I was looking forward to it. Then it rained. And it rained and rained and rained. So everyone’s farms were muddy, sloppy messes.  They all opted for coming here instead, so we did a mix of outdoor and studio. I tried some new lighting techniques in the studio, and I really like how they turned out. The rain also decided to stop for the day, and we were able to shoot outdoors as well. Good day!

Delayed post!

First off, I apologize that it’s been sooo long since the last blog post. I’ve been shooting pretty steady the past week, so the blog got neglected a little bit. This family made the long drive out for their son’s grad formals. I had shot his sister’s last year, and they were GORGEOUS!  Good looking kids mom and dad! And they’re nice too. That’s always a bonus ;)

Multi-talented

I’m sure everyone in this part of the province knows that Saturday was a disgusting day. Dark, dreary, rainy.  Thankfully, I didn’t have a wedding booked! I did, however, have a grad student, and he had all sorts of props for me to work with. Doing everything in the studio was out of the question.  After a couple of inside shots with the guitar, we were off on the town.  First stop, the ball diamond. He was kept dry in the dugout. I, on the other hand, was standing in the field, umbrella in one hand, camera in the other.  That’s tricky stuff! Anything for a cool photo.  We also stopped by an old porch to get a few more outdoor guitar shots. I’m so glad we did! I had trouble narrowing down which ones to post. There were a lot of artsy images.

When we came back to the studio, we did some shots of him in his Tae Kwon Do attire.  This guy’s dad, Master Brett Ferch, has taken on instructing a group of us in town.  I am absolutely loving it!  This student and his family also help instruct the classes every week, and they’re awesome.  So if you guys are all reading this, thanks so much for all the effort you put into us, even if we don’t catch on as quickly as we should!  We’ll miss you next year once you’ve graduated. :(

Broadview Grads

God was good, and the sun shone!!  Broadview grad was on friday, and last year it was snowing on their grad day.  So the warm weather, wind and sun was a very, very welcome forecast.  I know the rest of the weekend sucked in a big way, but I was happy at least that it didn’t start until I was finished with my kids!!  I know that’s selfish, but the tree across the street was in full bloom, and I sooooo wanted to take advantage of that.  It was gorgeous with the girl’s shots, and being that there is only one boy in the class, the tree was a focal point for 99% of the class.  Even the “field” of dandelions in the empty lot across the street worked well.  You work with what you’ve got. :)

Hope you guys had a great, safe night on friday. Congrats!!

Last week’s grad boys

Lots of boys this week, from all over (Whitewood, Cowesses, Wolseley) so you’re all getting grouped together!

The real Friday grads

So this is the crew that I had in on friday. The last post I did was actually thursday afternoon, but I was getting ahead of myself on my post titles.  :)   I had a bunch of Whitewood grads come down on the real friday, and as always, I had fun (and hope they did too!)  Grad season is so incredibly hectic, but I love it!

Friday’s Grads

Three Kipling grads, in Wolseley.  Odd, yes, but it’s such a pretty town, so we went there for some new locations.
