Last wedding of September

For today’s wedding, we did things a bit differently. The bride wanted to do some studio shots, and I very rarely do that with weddings, unless the weather is awful, and I’ve got a local one. I am sooooo glad that she wanted to do some here! She let me try some old hollywood lighting, and I LOVE how it turned out! We definately got some different images from my normal style.

After the studio pics, we headed out to Wolseley, one of the prettiest towns in Southeastern Saskatchewan. It’s got some great old buildings, and we took advantage of alot of cool architechure.  Hope you guys had/are having (since I’m posting this while they’re likely dancing the night away!!) a great reception.  :)

I also want to say a quick thank you to my wonderful, observant assistant today. She is one of my august brides and it was great to have her with me helping out.  Thanks so much Marcy!

Elegance in the evening

I had the wonderful opportunity to shoot a very unique wedding on saturday. The post may look a little backwards, as the ceremony pictures are close to the end. This couple chose to have an outdoor 8:00 p.m. ceremony. It was the most breathtaking scene. Weather could not have cooperated any better. The air was still warm and the breeze was just enough to keep the bugs away. There wasn’t a cloud in sight, so the starts danced like diamonds in the black sky. It was a spectacular event.

We started the day by doing some pre-bridal shots, then met up with the groom to do some pictures of the two of them together. It was so relaxing and wonderful to share some time with them before the hustle of the day began. They were such soft gentle people, and were so easy to be around.  We met up with the wedding party later on, then family, then off for the evening ceremony. A live band was playing instrumental Beatles music, which just set the mood perfectly. If anyone knows me, they’ve probably seen me in any number of different Beatles t-shirts, so I was in my glory! I just can’t describe how beautiful and romantic the whole day was. The ambiance was like something out of a movie. Thank you so much for choosing me as your photographer. I was honored to be a part of your day. :)

Love on Campus

We had a terrific September day for the Regina wedding on saturday.  You never know in the fall what type of weather you’ll get, but it couldn’t have been a more perfect day. We did all of the shots at the University campus. I’d never been there, and I thought it was beautiful! I love how the reflection of the sky showed in all the buildings that we shot against. It made for such bright fresh images. This couple met on campus, so that’s what influenced their decision to do their photos there. I’m so glad they chose it. We had a great time with them. I keep saying we, so I should explain that my awesome friend, and fellow photographer, Lindsey, came with me. When I stepped on a nail during a session earlier in the week, I was worried that I might have trouble keeping up to a wedding. I asked her to come shoot with me, and it was so much fun. She took off with the groomsmen for awhile, and they got some crazy shots! If you’re on Facebook, look for Lilyfield Photography, and you’ll find her stuff. She’s great, and if you’re in the city and need a photographer for anything, look her up. She’s expecting baby #3, so she’ll be a super busy business woman/momma. :)

Part 2 - Image overload

Because this is family, I kind of went a little haywire on the images. I know there’s probably too many posted here, but they’re getting special treatment. I had a completely awesome time with them, and I’m so glad that I was able to photograph their wedding. We’ve been so excited for this day to come, and it was a perfect one. The church service was very spiritual, the afternoon was fun, the supper was tasty (especially the desserts!) and the reception hall was abolutely gorgeous. It was a very Ukranian evening, and I got to hear more polka music in one evening than I’ve ever heard in my whole life. If I knew how to dance to it, I would have loved to, but I  spent most of the evening swinging my 4 year old in circles on the dance floor. Thank you, thank you, thank you for such an incredible day guys. I hope you’re having a fantastic honeymoon in Mexico and a beautiful life together!! We’ll be stopping by to see the newly renovated house. :)

“Hello, this is Wendy’s. May I take your order?” ……   “Yes, we’ll have 20 burgers please”……  As you can see below, the wedding party was a bit numerous. And hungry.   ;)

I have to throw in a little story about this above image.  Our Sean Penn look-a-like groom proposed to his future bride in this very tractor. Of course that was pretty special, and was a must for a photo op.

I know I do this shot alot of girls, but I just love it.  Always, always pretty.

Romance and elegance

Here are  just a quick handful of pictures from today’s wedding. This is my wonderful cousin in law and her equally wonderful new husband. I didn’t get home from the wedding until after 1:00 a.m., but I couldn’t help it. I’m still up at 3:24 a.m. , downloading cards and flipping through images. I wanted to post a few in case anyone who recieved a blog card at the wedding was checking!  Anyone who was at the wedding knows that these two are two of the greatest people you’ll have walk through your life. They’re warm, caring, compassionate, on fire for God, and just generally a blessing to be around.

Be sure to check back in a day or two, as I’ll be adding a TON more from the day.  But for now, my bed is calling me…….

Why my job makes me happy

I recieved this e-mail yesterday from the bride from last weekend (the last wedding post on here, from August 22nd).  I had been uploading her wedding pictures last week as I was finishing editing them. On wednesday I uploaded all the pre-bridal, ceremony and family pictures for her to view, then the main pictures a few days later, and then I finally finished editing the wedding sunday night and posted the reception pictures for her. This was what she wrote to me…..

Hello there,
So I am sitting at home, bored, and I looked in our gallery and to my surprise there are more pictures up!!! (you got my candy buffet YaY!!) not only did you get that, but sooo many other shots of our guests, decorations, cakes, everyone jammin’ on the dance floor etc. I didn’t expect you to take so many shots of all the little things, but I am thrilled that you did. I didn’t even know you took pictures of the speeches so I am sniffling happy tears thinking of all the kind words, laughs, and hugs shared. Thank you so much Tatum you went above and beyond this time. You have captured all these amazing moments for us to cherish for years to come, you have know I idea how grateful we are to you and we cant begin to Thank you enough!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

I think I’m pretty lucky to have the job that I do. I put in really long hours, I’m working every weekend and lots of evenings, but in the end, I have satisfaction at the end of the day. When I get letters like this, it really makes me proud of what I do too. I don’t often enter print competitions, or get very involved with my professional photography association, but I don’t think all the awards in the world can compare to getting heartfelt messages from the people that I work for. These thank yous are the best praise I can recieve.

Part II!

Well, I was going through the wedding pictures again, and found some more that I wanted to post. I forgot to put up stuff from the reception, so those had to be added!

A full day of love

After a morning of nasty winds and the threat of rain, the afternoon shaped up perfectly for an outdoor wedding.  We had a lot of great locations to use, and we shot a TON of pictures! I had help again from Josie, and she was great as always. The first, second and fifth images in the post were all her ideas. I’m loving having her come with me to help out!

This was the only wedding in which I was there to cover the entire day with everyone. I was there from 10:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and I had a wonderful time all day. I got fed well, laughed lots, and got to see a bunch of past wedding couples at the dance. I thought after I left that I should have gotten a picture of myself with all my former brides.  There were three couples that I spotted that I had photographed weddings for, the couple of the day, and a couple that’s booked in for next year.  I love my small town weddings, and I love getting to run into people years down the road whom I’ve photographed.

Congratulations you guys. Thanks for having me spend close to 12 hours with you the day of your wedding! I’m glad you had as much fun as I did!

Wedding #2!

Saturday was wedding number 2 for the weekend. It was a local one, so it was fun hanging out with people that I knew already. They were all so goofy and entertaining.  I was giggling all afternoon.

I also brought along a girl from town that really likes taking pictures. She was awesome!! She got so many cool shots, from unique angles.  I think I’ll take her along more often! Thanks so much Josee.   :)   I’ve marked which ones were her shots. She got great detail pics, and lots of fun candid ones of all the little flower girls.

A touch of Ireland

On friday I spent the day with a terrific family. My great friend and fellow photographer (Tracy’s Portraits), watched her daughter marry an incredible young man.  Their love for eachother was so emotional.  I hadn’t actually met her daughter until the day of the wedding, but I already felt I knew her. She and her new husband are such gentle loving people. They will be a blessing to all that they come to meet in their lives together. They will be spending 3 weeks in Ireland for their honeymoon. I am so excited for them!! Congratulations Kelsi and Terrance. I had a perfect day with you guys and the whole family. I know you will have a wonderful life together. Thanks so much for choosing me to capture your day. I was so nervous, knowing that I was photographing a photographer’s family, but you two are so photogenic and affectionate, that my job was simply to follow you and catch you being yourselves.

And because the day was a bit raining and dreary, as in keeping with the Irish theme, I thought I’d end the post with an Irish wedding blessing.

“May you always have enough happiness to keep you sweet, trials to keep you strong, success to make you eager, friends to give you comfort, wealth to meet your needs, enthusiasm to look for tomorrow, and a growing love to make each day better than the day before.”

A dance with dad to end the evening. I love this image.  It’s hard to get a good shot when you’re crying though.
