This past saturday Josie and I headed out to Ft. Qu’appelle for a beach wedding. The couple got married on the grass on the waterfront, with a wonderful view of the hills in behind. Thank goodness for a little breeze though, because it was a hot, bright sunny day. It was fun to get some shots in and around the water. It felt pretty good too! Enjoy the preview guys! Congratulations.

After I photographed the first family, I headed onto the other side of town to capture this extended family. Major efforts were made to get all this crew together, as one family lives in Australia. It’s so hard to get families together, so everytime I book an extended family session, I’m amazed at everyone’s effort in attending. There are work schedules to switch, holidays to coordinate, and kid’s activities to work around. There are so many obstacles when trying to plan a reunion, but when it works out, it’s so worth it. So here’s to the couple that got the whole family started!

Last week I headed out to Indian Head to shoot a day’s worth of families. This was the first one up. This family wanted some pictures down this beautiful lane, and I was happy to oblige. I just never tire of doing the “family holding hands walking” shot. The kids inevitably look up at mom and dad, and it’s just so precious. I love it! These are the types of pictures that I think make great canvases. They’re a bit more timeless and emotional.

So it’s been a LONG time since the last post. We left for holidays at the beginning of July at had a really good break from regular life. Now back to reality!

This family booked their session ages ago, with plans of doing their pictures in canola. It turned out to be a great night (other than of course the hummingbird sized mosquitos). We roamed around the farm area shooting in lots of different locations. Hope you guys had an awesome vacation too!

I had sooo much fun with my wedding on saturday. The bride (and I think the groom!) wanted to do a more urban look for their pictures. I haven’t done any weddings in the city in a while, so I drove around for a few minutes before the ceremony to find some cool spots. Well, I found some! They were very willing participants, and we were climbing up walls, scaling garbage bins (me, not them!), laying on backalley loading ramps, etc. Great fun! :) And to top it all off, she had wicked shoes. I’ve had lots of grads wear crazy shoes this year, so I was very pleased when I spotted the bride’s red heels during the ceremony. On our way from the city to the reception out near the Qu’appelle Valley, we stopped at my friend’s farm to do a few country looking shots. They turned out fantastic too. So glad we got lots of variety! Happy honeymooning.

Friday’s session was a fun one. I knew when I booked in a little girl that I wanted to try and find somewhere with lots of flowers. I thought of a lady in town’s backyard, and it worked out perfectly (other than the mosquitos of course. In the vertical shot of her by the red flowers in the pot, I had to get rid of 6 mosquitoes that were on various parts of her body!!) I hope she didn’t got home with dozens of welts all over her. She cooperated really well though, and the fact that she wasn’t quite walking helped me out!

On thursday, we got to celebrate Canada Day with three completely wonderful people. My husband’s cousin had a baby boy a week and a half ago, and we got to meet him! Casey kind of took a liking to him, and Aiden serenaded him on the guitar. I photographed mommy and daddy’s wedding almost a year ago, so a lot has changed for them in this first year of marriage! Kristina has the most beautiful spirit, and she and her husband are going to be incredible parents. I loved being able to photograph them in their own home. I don’t always do this, but it sure is cool to see people in their own environment, getting used to this new little creature in their lives. Thanks so much for letting us come visit you so soon after your delivery. It’s not easy playing hostess when you are still recovering from childbirth, so we really appreciate you letting us come meet him. God bless guys! :) And a late Happy Canada day everyone!!

On a side note, this session was in Yorkton. We left the city as the skies started to get dark and scary looking, later on in the afternoon. We got caught on the highway in that torrential downpour. Our wipers couldn’t keep up, and I was afraid we’d start hydro planing and slide into the lane of oncoming traffic. We got pelted by a bit of hail, and though I’m not usually a nervous traveller, even in snow storms, I was feeling my heart racing. When I woke up this morning and went on MSN, I saw the images of Yorkton and all the flooding that happened during that storm. Unbelievable. It looked like the images in New Orleans a few years back. Glad we were able to get home safely when we did. I’m sure there were others who weren’t so lucky.

On wednesday night my husband’s aunt and uncle and their crew came out for a photo session. The two little girl cousins could not have been sweeter. I was in LOVE with their cute pink dresses! With the evening sun, their gorgeous curls, the canola growing between the tracks and the soft colors, it was perfectly romantic! Yes, they were busy toddlers, and we were kept on our toes, but it was so neat to see their relationship with eachother. The seemed more like sisters than cousins. And yes, I did get pictures of other groupings other than the girls, but they’re just precious together, so I’m posting a bunch of the two of them!

This is graduate #2 for this family. I did his older brother’s grad a few years ago, as well as their family pictures. Everyone is a bit taller now than they were at the last session, but still as sweet as they were the first time. When they were walking up to the studio, my oldest son got all excited and said “Mom!! Look. It’s twins!!” We shot a little of everything on monday night and even had a random appearance from a local. Does anyone remember when Dave Letterman would put up pictures with famous people, then he’d find the funny bystander in the background of the shot, and circle him and say “What about that guy??!!” Well, if you remember that, the one picture in the post will be funny. If you don’t watch Dave, then just pretend to laugh along with me. And no, dad is NOT picking his nose. It just looks that way! He probably had a mosquito bite, as they were blood sucking killers in that area.
